Karin's brief biography

Karin Sinniger is BP’s Vice President for Legal Affairs in Angola. She joined the BP Group in 1996 and has provided advice to the mergers and acquisitions team in Chicago; Amoco’s Chemicals Division in Switzerland; Air BP’s Latin American and Caribbean operations; and BP’s E&P Division in Azerbaijan.

Karin was born in Hong Kong to Swiss parents, and grew up in Malaysia, the Philippines, Japan and the UK before starting her professional career in New York. She received her BA (Honours) and MA in Jurisprudence from Oxford University and a Masters in Corporate Law from George Washington University. Prior to joining BP, she practiced corporate and finance law at Baker McKenzie and Mayer Brown’s New York offices. She is admitted to practice law before the courts of New York and the US Supreme Court. From 2004-6 she wrote the monthly “Going Global” column in the Association of Corporate Counsel’s Docket magazine.

Karin is a member of the prestigious New York based Explorer’s Club and is a Fellow of the Royal Geographical Society. She is working on setting a world record for scuba diving in the most countries.

Akhil's brief biography

Dr. Akhil Prasad is Head of Legal, Oversight & Company Secretary at Fidelity Worldwide Investment, India (FIL India Business Services, since September 2007) and is based at Gurgaon. In past he has held offices as Director India Legal Affairs & Company Secretary of The Walt Disney Company India (2005 to 2007); as Senior Attorney & Company Secretary of General Motors India (2003 to 2005); and as Assistant General Manager Legal with Electrolux Kelvinator (2000 to 2002).

Prior to these assignments, he has also worked with the legal teams in Modicorp Group (including Modi Xerox and Graphtech India from 1995 to 2000). Akhil has about over 18 years’ experience as an In-house Counsel and has worked with legal teams spread across different countries. Akhil has worked across various industries in the area of legal, risk and compliance, taxation, regulatory and corporate affairs. He has worked for Steel, Office Automation, White Goods, Computer Hardware, Media & Entertainment and now IT/ITES and Mutual Funds. His areas of practice includes Contracts (including International Contracts) & Litigation, Corporate Laws, Environmental Laws, Intellectual Property Laws, Industrial & Employment Laws, Information Technology and Information Technology Enabled Services, Private Equity, Risk Management, Oversight and Regulatory Compliance, Media Laws, Mergers Amalgamations & Restructuring, Real Estate / Property Laws, Tax Laws.

For the duration of July to November 2012, Akhil will be a visiting faculty, on part-time basis, to the 'Delhi School of Economics, University of Delhi' for its program 'Master of International Business' and will teach 'Legal Dimensions Of International Business'. Akhil is the Vice – Chairman and an Advisory Board member to the Corporate Counsel Committee of the International Bar Association. He holds professional memberships with the Institute of Company Secretaries of India; the Institute of Chartered Secretaries and Administrators, UK; the Law Society, UK; Indian Council of Arbitration, India; FACT Panel of Arbitrators & Conciliators, India. He is an avid speaker and has participated in seminars in India and outside (Paris, Madrid, Vancouver & Dubai).
